Our Journey

MIAG Limited was set up in 2020 by our founder and CEO Julian Alsop. Julian began working in the education sector in 2017 when he was employed by a local care provider to deliver an individualised education programme for a learner. This very quickly led to Julian working across several care providers in the Bristol area delivering individualised education programmes.

Julian himself had found education in a school environment challenging. He was not really interested in being an academic and found it really hard to engage with and focus on his education until much later in life, when following a very successful career as a professional footballer, he undertook degree studies, qualifying with an accountancy degree. Julian’s own experiences provide him with the ability to empathise with young people and continues to inspire his passion to deliver education differently.

Julian’s own educational experiences and identification of a growing local need for young people who were not able to engage in ‘standard’ education led to Julian’s setting up MIAG. Here at MIAG, we design our curriculum to ensure that we:

  • Listen to, and hear from our learners
  • Engage Parents as partners
  • Re-engage learners in their education
  • Foster curiosity
  • Prepare learners for independent living and life beyond education
  • Support learners to make safe and healthy lifestyle choices

MIAG continues to grow and the organisation now exists alongside MIAG Independent Special Day School, Hambling View.

Julian will use his own story to inspire young people to achieve their dreams and aspirations, and is often heard to say ‘If I can do it, anyone can’.

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer (COO) for MIAG, I am delighted to introduce our redesigned website, designed to provide valuable resources, information, and support to our learning community.

The re-design of this platform was one of the first projects that I oversaw upon my appointment to MIAG 12 months ago. Having joined MIAG from a background of working in SEND (Special Educational Needs and/or Disability) for the past 30 years, the past 9 years at a senior leadership level I was well aware of the challenges that young people and their families found with a lack of information available to them especially around Alternative Provision. It was therefore really important to me to ensure that MIAGs offer was clear, comprehensive and accessible to all.

Our MIAG team works tirelessly to ensure that our learners, parents, and staff have access to the best possible services and support. Through this website, we aim to facilitate communication, collaboration, and coordination among various agencies and stakeholders. We are committed to fostering a culture of transparency, trust, and partnership, ultimately enhancing the wellbeing and success of our learners and the wider community.

We are always keen to hear what you think and to improve upon our offer, if you would like to offer some feedback please do so using the Contact Us feature.
