Qualifications

Here at MIAG we were beyond proud last year when 85% of our learners left with qualifications and more importantly 100% of our leavers had identified destinations. Both of these indicators are huge for these individuals when you consider their very unique journeys, and their individual needs.

Whilst supporting our learners to be the very best version of themselves our approach to assessment at MIAG is Assessment for Learning.

Assessment for Learning is an approach that focuses on supporting learners learning and development through ongoing, formative assessments. It’s a phased approach that provides regular feedback, helping learners identify areas of strength and weakness, and informing instruction to meet their needs.

Key Characteristics:

  • Formative assessments: Regular, low-stakes assessments that inform instruction and provide feedback to learners
  • Feedback: Timely, specific, and actionable feedback that helps learners understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Phased approach: Assessments are spaced out over time, allowing learners to learn from their mistakes and build on their strengths.

We are also keen to reduce anxieties and stress when it comes to examinations and we prefer to use the term assessment.

Learners attending MIAG must participate in Functional Literacy and Numeracy Skills. Upon entry into MIAG all learners will undertake a baseline assessment to ensure that their learning programmes are gauged to their ability. Success is important and we want our Learners to experience this wherever and whenever possible.

In addition to qualifications for Functional Skills we are able to offer additional qualifications through the NOCN (National Open College Network) SETPD (Skills for Employment, Training & Personal Development) up to Level 1 qualifications. Our team will work with the individual learners to ensure that their modules within SETPD are relevant to their further education and/or employment pathways.
